Selling!
Uncategorized November 14th, 2008When it comes to small business, I like Indians.
And no before the net nanny’s out there come out with something about ‘racial generalisations’ the comment has no negative racial connotations, its just that I admire the way Indians approach their small business.
We joke about it a lot but Indians are always selling, without you necessarily realising you’re being sold to! Unfortunately selling is the one area where small businesses often miss out and you need to do things a little differently if you want to make a success.
This evening, purely by chance we stumbled across a new indian take away and restaurant small business up the road from us. We went in and ordered some takeaways and while we were there, the guy behind the counter was carefully showing off his store and his menu and describing the things that he recommends etc.
All this AFTER he’d made the sale to us. Reeled in, hooked us on the first sale and now wants to keep us coming back for more….
Sometimes I think that we forget that the first sale is not necessarily where the profit is made - its the customer who keeps coming back for more that we REALLY love….
